Love this school !!
I have had three children pass through Bede's. What an amazing school! Each of my children have different strengths which were recognised and celebrated at Bede's. One was artistic, one more academic and one a sporty dyslexic. The extra curricular activities are incredible, a real variety on offer to tempt even the most reluctant participant. There was a situation when my eldest was bullied; the school dealt with this swiftly and professionally at all times supporting him. I would encourage anyone to look at this school to see for yourself the positive vibe that buzzes round this school.
Bede's Senior School is a typical school with bully, drugs and smoking. TBH the school has a lot of problems. Wifi here is basically useless, you have weak services 24/7. The school wifi is slow and turns off at 11pm. This meant that you are not able to do or search anything for your homework/projects. In other words, if your child is a straight A-grade person, when your child enters this school, it is guaranteed that your child will change from A to D. Why? Because the school's grading system is complete wrecked. The teachers don't teach. They don't care. The students here are all ill-mannered, including me. Furthermore, the school does not hold justice to their actions. There was like a public external exam that pretty much guarantees our pass for universities, and there was a kid who is straight up cheating. The kid basically continued writing the exam when the time stopped. The invigilator at first said stop, but then pretty much ignored the kid and let him finish. The invigilator should obviously take the kid's ID or something, because this is how it should be when you continue to write the exam when the time had stopped. But in the end, the kid was able to finish his exam (and no, he was not qualified with extra time). So what I am trying to say, is that this school does not uphold justice. To let a cheater get away with such an disgusting act. Can you imagine, this school is basically giving a pass to cheaters, instead of punishing them. Overall, the school is pretty much typical. They just got to work with their grading systems and their morals. PARENTS AND STUDENTS, don't be fooled by the school's external looks, instead look into the internal workings of the school, and you will definitely realise the faults within them!
both kids there, great school. accademicly, pastoraly and on the sports side too!
Bede's Senior School... I have a list of the problems with the place which will make your understanding of my opinion of this place much easier to... well, understand.Firstly, the teachers here can be so unhelpful at times, few would even go as far as to outright ignore what you have to say just so that the lesson can continue.Secondly, lack of discipline. Pupils can get away with anything during lessons, mainly because they always come up with stupid excuses for what they are doing. Most students - by that I mean students from different countries - make sexual jokes, all because in their country, 'you are allowed to have "y'know-what" at this age." Thirdly, Activities, and hoo boy I have a lot to say about this. While there is some variety in the selection of activities (some of which were already quite unintuitive or boring - sometimes both), I wish they added a little more variety to where pupils go during weekends, as on Saturdays, Full boarders can stay in house, or go on a shopping trip. Sounds fine, right? Wrong. On Saturdays, they can take you to Hailsham (you spend 1 and a half hours there), Eastbourne (you spend 5+ hours there) and no where else. I suppose the reason for this is because the school wants to make sure their buses don't go to too many places just so its easy to keep track of them, but come on, it's so boring!Sundays are a little better - on Sunday afternoons, you get taken on a coach/bus to yet another shopping trip, but this time, the place you are taken is different. Well... Sometimes. Personally, I find this alright, because for once, it shows this place has variety, however, you may find that you are spending unnecessarily long at one place, especially on trips to BlueWater.Thankfully, there is a way to bypass this tediousness - if you are a weekly boarder, you only have to stay at school during the week, as the name implies. Not only do you miss these trips, you're also spending time with your family/friends/relatives, people who deserve your time more than the teachers and students here.Fourthly, the campus is way too large. Students from Stud and Crossways houses will notice that their houses are furthest away from where lessons actually happen. Lets view it like this: if Crossways and Stud were on one half of the campus, the buildings where lessons would take place would be on the other half. On the subject of lessons, almost all of the lessons are a pain to even get to, with the only exceptions being Physical Education and Geography, which are in buildings right next to Stud and Crossways, and Mathematics being the most tedious of the bunch. From Stud/Crossways, it takes around a 5 minute walk (minimum of 2 minutes if you run) to the Maths Building, which takes place on the far side of the other half. This results in students potentially becoming late to Mathematics all because of the tediously long walk. Now, lets get on to the 'positives'. The only positives I can think of are the before-mentioned weekly boarder privileges and the fact that as unhelpful as the teachers are in lessons, (rarely, in house as well) when you tell them something isn't right, whether it's bullying, smoking or strange occurrences in boarding houses during the night (such as setting off stink bombs in others rooms while they are sleeping), they get stuff done. They'll find the culprit and make them pay dearly for the great mistake they have made. Overall, my opinion on this place is largely mixed, but is more on the negative side, and I have given you my reasons why. This boarding school would do better as a 3 star hotel than a Boarding school.
